An understrength Town second string fell to a 2-0 defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road. Steve McCall's side was weakened by the loss of a number of regulars who were involved in the U18 FA Youth Cup match at Stoke.

Town's U18s beat Millwall 3-2 in their first game of 2005, at the Lions' Calmont Road. The U16s began their year with a defeat, also against Millwall.

The U18s took an unexpected lead on 14 minutes after Billy Clarke fired home from distance, Town having been on the back foot up to then.

Town's 2004/05 FA Cup campaign came to an early end as Bolton left Portman Road with a 3-1 win. The result rather flattered the visitors, the game having been a closer affair, but their superior second half finishing won the tie.

Recent Town signing Darren Currie enters the FA Cup at the third round stage for the first time on Saturday, the midfielder having spent much if his career playing for clubs in the lower divisions. Currie told TWTD that he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Portman Road.

Two second half goals from Darren Currie took the Blues to a deserved 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, one of his former clubs. With Tommy Miller substituted, Currie took responsibility from the spot and netted a second not long after. Mickey Evans pulled one back not long after Currie's second.

Town's 17-match home unbeaten run stretching back to April ended as West Ham went away from Portman Road with a 2-0 win. Keeper Kelvin Davis gifted the first in the opening minute, the second goal coming from Matthew Etherington in the final minute of normal time.

Town cemented their position as league leaders at the turn of the year with a comfortable 1-0 win over Stoke City. The Blues deserved more than Shefki Kuqi's goal in the 34th minute, particularly from a very dominant first half display.

Town boss Joe Royle felt his side were unlucky to be defeated 3-1 at Millwall. The Blues' manager was also convinced his side should have had a first half penalty when Tommy Miller was fouled inside the box.
